Celebrities Everyone Loves

This post was originally written in 2012. It’s now 2021 and many of these celebrities are no longer universally loved. Enjoy the irony.

While driving to work the other day, my local radio station was talking about Betty White’s recent appearance on Jay Leno. And how at the tender age of 90, she still cracks jokes as if she were in her 20’s. There was just so much Betty White love, and rightly so — I’m a fan of hers as well.

That short radio conversation got me thinking… there are just some celebrities that everyone loves. Or, if you look at it from a more pessimistic point of view (like I did), those celebrities that no one really hates. These lucky few celebrities have plenty of fans, manage to stay far away from celebrity gossip, and have the luxury of not being criticized or verbally tortured on tabloids such as Perez Hilton.

So I’ve compiled a list of celebrities everyone loves (or the least hated celebrities- depending on which way you look at it).

Betty White

Betty White

Where do I even begin? The woman was chosen to host SNL after an online petition made its way to Lorne Michaels’ doorstep. She won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the SAGS, is featured on those hilarious Snickers commericals and openly jokes about sex, drinking and misbehaving. Most importantly, I have NEVER heard someone say “I don’t like Betty White” or “that Betty White gal sure is a bitch” (ok so maybe no one would call a 90-year-old woman a bitch or use the word “gal”, but you get my point). She is the ultimate “celebrity everyone loves”.

Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen brings smiles and laughter to people’s lives everyday at 4 pm EST. She dances up and down the isles, gives away thousands of dollars to charities and fans who deserve it, and pulls pranks on both regular people and celebrities- and somehow gets away with it! If these aren’t enough reasons to show you how loved Ellen is, then take a look at the personal struggles she has overcome in one of her many autobiographies or best-selling books. She would be the best friend a girl (or guy) could ever have.

Paul Rudd

Paul Rudd

Every time I see Paul being interviewed (by males and females alike), the reporters just swoon over his endearing charm and witty remarks. He’s that guy that every man wants to be friends with and every woman hopes to be her future husband (we all love a good sense of humor!) Plus, the man is in every movie! I can’t tell you how many times I’m watching a movie and he just pops up in it- not that I’m complaining.

Giuliana Rancic

Giuliana Rancic

I’ve been watching Guiliana cover the ups and downs of celebrities’ lives on the E network for years now and have never seen such a likable host. She interacts with celebrities without being too fake, gives her honest and hilarious fashion advice on Fashion Police, and even takes self-loathing jabs at herself- something that is so rare in Hollywood or even the real world. Guiliana has also shared her personal struggle with conceiving and her recent battle with breast cancer, helping millions of other women deal with their struggles as well.

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock

I’d like to preface this by saying that people loved Sandra even before she got royally screwed over by her ex husband Jessie James. Sure, that might have got her some sympathy, but it was also Sandra’s way of taking the high road and persevering during a tough time that really showed her character and made people fall even more in love with her. She’s been referred to as Hollywood’s “Girl Next Door” and makes jokes that even the guys can appreciate.

Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning

I’m no sports freak, but I do know the basics (as in who is on what team, any scandals or controversies, which player is the cutest, etc.), so I’m going to let my boyfriend take over this one. I asked him if there were any professional athletes that came to mind when talking about this topic, and he quickly came up with Peyton. Here is his response:

This 11 time pro-bowler,  4 time league MVP and Superbowl MVP is not only known for his skills on the field, but also for his dedication off the field.  He is the founder of the Peyback Foundation which is a widely successful organization aimed to help disadvantaged children. Peyton also is known for his extraordinary relationship with the media, which has been particularly evident the past few months when his team, and home, for 14 years, The Indianapolis Colts showed him the door in an effort to move in a different, “younger” direction.  After showing nothing but loyalty and respect his whole career, Manning carried on his reputation as a class act by handling the situation with maturity and dignity. Plus, can any of us forget his spectacular SNL performance?
