Matching Lips & Nails

matching lips and nails

I’ve been known in the past to be a bit matchy-matchy. I was the girl who in middle school had a headband in each and every color, and it always matched my outfit. In high school, my earring collection surpassed that of the local Claire’s — I had a pair in every shade or color combo to match my wardrobe. While I’m certainly not that intense anymore, sometimes I still like to match here and there.

An easy and trendy way to do this is with matching lips and nails. Whether you purchase them separately or in a set together,  choosing similar shades of makeup creates a put-together look. I can’t tell you how many times I get the comment “Oh how cute — your lips and nails match!” (usually from women, since men don’t notice that kind of stuff). Here are some products to get the look yourself. What do you think of matching lips and nails?

Tips for Wearing Matching Lips and Nails

Put on the Lip Color First

It’s much easier to pull of a crazy nail color than it is lip color, so be sure to try it on your lips first. If it passes that test, it’ll likely look good on your nails, too.

Take Your Skin Tone into Account

If you know a particular shade looks good on your skin tone (or with your hair color or eye color), it’s likely that it will look good on both your face and nails.

Look at the Season

If you’re lacking inspiration or are bored with the standard pink shades you wear, look at what lip and nail colors are trending for the season.

Don’t Match it To Your Outfit

You can only match 2 things on your entire body, so decide if that’s matching your nails to your dress or your nails to your lips.
