Claddagh Jewelry
If you’re Irish like me, you probably already know about Claddagh jewelry. If not, I’ll fill you in. The Claddagh ring is a traditional Irish ring that represents love, loyalty and friendship. The hands represent friendship, the heart represents love, and the crown represents loyalty. The design and customs associated with it originated in the Irish fishing village of Claddagh, located just outside the old city walls of Galway, now part of Galway City. You wear the ring with the crown facing up if you are taken and facing down if you are single (guys — that’s an easy trick to know if a girl is single or not!)
I have a Claddagh ring from a local jewelry shop that I’ve had since I was probably 13. I wear it daily and rarely take it off. It was a gift from one of my oldest childhood friends (hey Amber!) The picks below are cute, too — I would definitely wear a nice dainty Claddagh necklace or that pretty silver bracelet. Do you own any Claddagh jewelry?
Silver Claddagh bracelet / Silver Claddagh necklace / Alex and Ani gold claddagh wire bangle / Gold Claddagh hoop earrings / Silver Claddagh ring
I owned a Claddagh ring when I was younger. I remember begging for it. I have since lost it, but the picture you have are cute!
I’ve always wanted one when I was younger! I love the Alex and Ani bracelet, so cute.
My in-laws are half Irish too….so this is very interesting to know. Lovely design btw, Irish or not! Have a Happy Pats weekend Rachel!!!
thanks- you too!
I don’t since I’m not Irish, but I really like that silver bracelet!
I LOVE Claddagh jewelry… it is so pretty. I don’t own Claddagh jewelry, but I did buy a celtic ring when I was in Ireland and it is on my finger 24/7… haven’t taken it off in 5 years! One of my favorite pieces 🙂 And I am like 1% Irish lol… pretty much just German. My mom’s birthday is St. Patrick’s Day though, so I feel like it gives me more reason to celebrate 😉
Same here- I never take my ring off! Happy early birthday to your mom!
My husband is Irish, and his wedding band is a Irish love knot 🙂
I love those, too!
I’m embarrassed to admit that, though I’m Irish, I didn’t know what the different symbols of the claddagh meant! I love these rings, and used to wear one all the time. I need to dig it out again!
ah no it’s totally fine- now you know!
I am also Irish and I’ve always wanted this ring! Love the one’s you picked out. So cute!
I always wanted a boy to give me a claddaugh ring growing up 🙂
These pieces are so fun. I bought a claddaugh ring when I went to Dublin for St. Patricks Day a few years ago. I had such a good time there, and it always reminds me of it!
that sounds like SO much fun!
Cute Claddagh collection! So neat to hear more about the history behind it!
I have a dear friend that had one but I never knew it was an Irish thing. I love that!
Such pretty pieces! Interesting story, too!
Cute pieces! Love the gold bracelet!
I’ve them before but didn’t know where they were from. They are very cute.
Thanks for the reminder! I know I have a Claddagh ring somewhere in my jewlery box, so this is the perfect time to bust it out! Loving those bracelets – so pretty!
I need a new Claddagh ring! The one my grandma gave me when I was younger no longer fits!
I so love that lovely bracelet, totally adorable <3
I don’t own any but I am really loving the pieces that you picked out. They are so beautiful. I love that bracelet.
I used to be all about my claddagh ring but I’ve forgotten about it in my recent years… I’m not even sure if I have it anymore! If I was to buy another one, I would definitely go dainty like that top ring you picked out. I love the look of the thin band and pop of green.
Mine is pretty dainty, too- I like those ones better!
