I’m Moving!
The fact that I’ve had to keep this little secret under wraps for a few weeks now has been killing me. You know when something great finally happens and you want to share it with the world? But you want to wait until all the paperwork is filed and everything is “official?” Well, that’s my story.
This girl is officially moving out of her hometown and parent’s house and into an apartment in an entirely different state with her boyfriend! I’ve been living at home in upstate NY since I graduated college because I a. found a job near my house a few months after graduation and b. needed desperately to save money in order to be able to pay my student loans & other expenses. Now that I’ve been saving up and working my little butt off, it seems that it has all paid off!
James and I have been doing the whole long-distance (3 hours apart) thing for 2 years now. While it hasn’t been easy, we’ve made it work. And I couldn’t be happier to finally get to move in with my best friend/boyfriend and start this adventure together.
In addition to moving out of my childhood home and into an apartment with my boyfriend in the state of New Jersey, I will also be starting a new job. I’m very excited to start a new job in the education marketing field where I will be working as an SEO Analyst. I’m very thankful to have found a job that allows me to go to the next level in my career, and I’m excited for all the new things I’ll be learning and new responsibilities and duties I will have.
So what does this all mean? Well, I’ll probably be a little busy with packing up my life, organizing things and moving, so I may not be posting as much as the blog as I’d normally like to. I’m going to try my best to still read some of your blogs and to schedule a few posts ahead of time to keep everyone entertained. This also means that all you bloggers/non-bloggers reading this who live in New Jersey, southern NY or NYC now have no excuse not to meet up with me and see my fabulousness in person. Ok- I’m not that fabulous, but I would love to get to hang out with some of you once I get settled in!
You should also prepare for plenty of blog posts revolving around this major life change. These may include, but are not limited to, posts about why moving sucks, things I’m scared about, things I’ll miss from home, adventures in decorating my apartment, how the hell am I going to fit all my clothes in here, and much more. You’ve been warned.
What am I asking from you? Although I’ve technically moved in and out of apartments for a few years while I was in college, this move is certainly bigger. So I’m looking for any moving tips/tricks/blog posts/websites that may be useful. I’m also now in full-on apartment decorating mode, so send over your favorite home decor Pinterest accounts or blogs as well.
YAY!!! That’s great news!!! I wondered a little bit when you said on my ‘blog friends’ post that you were looking forward to meeting more “when you moved” and I was right!! Congratulations on your job and FINALLY BEING DONE WITH LONG DISTANCE!!! So, so happy for you.
thank you so much Alyssa! <3
Congratulations, Rachel! What an exciting time in your life! Best wishes to you during this transition. We’ve been living in our house for 3+ years and it’s still not fully decorated. 😛 Take your time and enjoy!

Congratulations! And I am so excited for the possibility of meeting you! Where in NJ will you be living? I’m in decorating mode too so I’ve been scoring Pinterest (obviously) and ApartmentTherapy.com for inspiration and ideas.
I’ll be working in Hoboken and living 25 minutes away in Fair Lawn. Is that anywhere close to you?! Thanks!
Super close! I live 20 minutes from Fair Lawn in Ridgefield Park and I work in NYC which is just a hop across the river from Hoboken. You’re going to love Hoboken I think.

So exciting Rachel! 🙂 Congrats on the new job and everything! IT IS SO MUCH fun to live with your best friend 🙂 I have been living with my boyfriend for over 2 years now and some days are hard, we just want space apart, but for the most part it is the best thing ever! Also I LOVE DECORATING. Hmmm… I can’t think of any websites off the top of my head but I will let you know 🙂
Thanks so much! I really can’t wait- we’ve been doing long-distance for so long!

Thanks!
Congrats, girl! So exciting. Welcome to the New York area.
Thank you!
Congrats on the new job!! I’m sure you will do great! I haven’t moved in years, so I can’t think of any tips off the top of my head, I’ll let you know if I do though. Good luck!
Thanks so much Amy!
congrats on your new adventure! moving is so wonderfully scary & exciting!! x
thanks so much!
Congratulations!!!! I moved from Michigan to OK about a year ago, moving everything I own with a car & a SUV + a LONG road trip. My life saver was using the “space saver vacuum bags” to shrink all my clothes/blankets/sweatshirts down and allow me to fit so much more into my suitcases and car! I’d buy furniture when you get to the new place, moving a dresser and two large TV’s was difficult for me! I’m sure I have a million more tips/tricks, I’ll keep thinking 🙂
Oooh good idea! Thanks Michelle!
I’m so excited for you! Apartment Therapy has been my savior for inspiration and reviews! x
thanks so much! 🙂
Wooo hoo!! Good luck with the move. How exciting. xo
thank you!
Congrats Rach! Thats such awesome news, I’m so happy for you! We just went through a move too, and my biggest piece of advice is to pack with some organiztion. We did well with most of our stuff, but near the end it was a free for all throwing things in any box that would fit. Its a nightmare to unpack lol. Also, use this chance to purge a lot of the clutter, it feels so good!
Good luck with everything, I can’t wait to read about your adventures!
Thanks so much! I’m an organized person, so I hope to follow your advice haha!
How exciting! I can’t wait to hear all about the move and life in a new place.
Thanks so much Lacey!
yayayay! Congratulations! After all the moving I’ve done in the last few years you think I’d have some advice…but really moving is just the worst. Make sure to keep things organized and throw things away as you pack and definitely make sure you bring toiletries and toilet paper right away! Soap and toilet paper don’t have time to be unpacked, they just need to be available 🙂
Keep us updated about meetups! I’m only in NE PA!
Thank you! Great advice- especially about the toilet paper haha
Congratulations!!! This is AWESOME!!! I am so excited for you!! Lots of new changes, but amazing ones! Cheers to a new chapter!!
thanks so much Shanna!
Yay! Let me know once you get to NYC and we will do brunch/drinks!
YES! Thank you Kelly!
I live in a 750sq ft apartment and I swear by these guys!! They are sooo insightful!! Congrats on your move!! Progression is great!

CONGRATS!! That is so exciting and a big move but so awesome! Hope you love your new place and not having to worry about traveling to see your boyfriend anymore. Yay!
Thanks so much!
yay yay yay! Congrats on taking this big leap of faith lady! This is so exciting, & I am cheering for you all the way! Moving in with my bf was the best decision I ever made… so I am sending you good luck (from personal experience) for navigating this new life chapter, I think you will rock it for sure!
Thanks so much Jessica! 🙂 We’ve been waiting a while now to finally move in together!
Congrats on the new job and big move!! I am in the same position, but still waiting to be able to leave so I’m so excited for you! Also I’m just outside of NYC I would love to meet your fabulousness!!

CONGRATS! That’s GREAT news! I know this feeling all too well. My now husband and I did long distance for 11 years! Thats right! 11. Then we got engaged after 11 years of dating and now he finally left politics and moved to Chicago to be with me! It’s so nice to finally be together after so long! I wish you all the best and congrats on the new job too. Maybe now you can teach me SEO stuff because it all makes my brain hurt but I wish i knew more to grow my blog.
thanks so much Jill! 11 years? Holy moly!
also, I’d love to help with SEO once I get all settled in my new place 🙂
Ahhhhh that’s so exciting! I can’t wait to hear all about your move. Sounds like so many good things are coming your way and you deserve it! If you ever need any tips or anything, feel free to email me. I just went through all that craziness and I can totally relate. And don’t feel guilty about not being able to keep up with blogs, sometimes your life needs to take priority 🙂

Thank you!
Congratulations! That all sounds very exciting. Starting a new chapter is always fun, exciting, nerve wracking but so wonderful. You get a fresh start which I think is the best part. Not sure what part of Jersey you will be moving to but if you are ever in Hoboken NJ it would be really cool to meet. Good luck!
Thanks so much! I will be working in Hoboken, so we can meet up for sure!
Oh thats so funny
Congrats! That is so exciting! I am anxiously awaiting moving out of my mom’s house as well to live with my boyfriend. And your new job sounds way cool! (I work in content marketing/SEO as well)

I can’t wait to hear more about your decorating plans and all the other fun (and not so fun) things associated with moving! Couldn’t be happier for you Rachel!
Thanks so much Jen!
Soooo excited for you Rachel, what a great time in your life!!! I was in a long distance relationship and can imagine how difficult it was for you-I was in Russia and my bf in US and now he is my hubby:) Very happy for you!!!
