Life Lately

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind. Last week was spent cleaning my childhood bedroom and packing up my entire life for my move. Then the later part of last week was spent shopping for apartment items and moving said items/boxes of clothing and furniture into my car and apartment. Throw in a late wedding and my and James’ parents meeting for the first time and there was little time to relax.

On top of the moving fiasco, I also started my new job on Monday. While it’s all very exciting and new, it has put me quite a bit behind on a lot of things, including reading and commenting on blogs, going on social media, and staying up-to-speed on what’s going on in the world (I didn’t even hear about the royal baby until late that night!) Putting all of the stressful things aside, here is a little life update.

Work: Work is going really well so far. I have the nicest boss and friendliest team here. Everyone is so smart and creative and I definitely am starting to feel “at home”, or as much as a newbie can after a week. I’m excited for all of the upcoming projects and to get to use and learn about new tools and programs in the field of SEO. I also enjoy my hours and office- there seems to be an amazing work/life balance and we have a kick-ass snack room. Need I say more? Hoboken is really awesome and I can’t wait to explore it more and more.

Commute: I was really nervous about my commute at first because I am not a big commuter. I don’t really love driving or public transportation and I have no sense of direction at all (it’s terrible, I know). The thought of getting on the wrong train or subway stop just makes me break out in hives. Fortunately, my commute to work is very easy. I walk 5 minutes to the train station, take a 30-minute train ride and then walk 5 minutes to my office. Easy peasy! Sure, it takes some time to adjust to it, but I can’t complain really!

Apartment: I love our space. We live on the 2nd floor in a townhouse-style apartment complex. The great part is we have our own door, no one living above us and don’t have to share a hallway or anything like most apartments. Although it’s not huge, I think it’s a really great space for our first apartment, especially for the price. I’m very excited to start decorating and of course posting photos on the blog! A lot of boxes and bins are still waiting to be unpacked, but that’s what this weekend is for. My only complaint- lack of closet space. Meh.

  1. I’m so excited for you Rachel! I’m glad your commute is manageable and it sounds like you guys snagged a great place! We live on the top floor of our building and I’m so thankful not to have people above us because noise transfers so easily and I’d hate to have people stomping around above our bedroom when we’re trying to sleep. We have a walk-in closet but it’s definitely too small…mind you I’m sure any closet would be too small for me unless it was the size of a bedroom lol

  2. Glad to hear your new job is going well! That is so great not to have anyone about you. I used to live in an apartment beneath a woman who would run on her treadmill in the wee hours of the morning and it was so loud! Hope you find a chance to relax a bit this weekend!

  13. Sounds like everything is going well! A transition period is totally normal as you settle into your new surroundings. My sense of direction is terrible too so I’d be a bit nervous about public transport at first too. You will have to get very creative with the closet! I had a tiny closet for years and had to find all kinds of ways to get extra space.

  14. rachel, this is so exciting. I am just back from my vacaction with my bf who is leaving pretty soon, so spending as must time as possible. Late wedding? Did I miss sth? 😉 I think I need to read the previous post of you too and catch up whats going on there hehehe. So glad you like your new job. It takes sometime to adjust to the new environment and what not but you will do great. When I moved to lake constance I wasnt used not using the public transportation, I need my car everywhere I go here otherwise I am lost. But its so much cheaper to use the train and better for the environment. you will have more colds too as the bacterias fly around, that was my experience. I havent heard of Hoboken, need to look it up where it is 🙂

    1. I’m getting good at the commute now, but at first I was nervous. Hoboken is in NJ and its right across the river from New York City!
