Miley’s “Wrecking Ball” Makeup
Chances are you’ve seen, or at least heard, the buzz surrounding Miley Cyrus lately. She had quite the performance at the VMA’s, but I’ve since moved on (hint: I wasn’t a fan of it at all). But when I heard her latest single, “Wrecking Ball”, I couldn’t help but actually enjoy it. I can be real picky when it comes to music- especially what’s played on the radio these days- so I was just as surprised as you when I caught myself singing it day and night.
While I’m surprisingly enjoying the actual song, the music video is another story. If you haven’t seen it, I suggest watching it (probably not at work!) before reading the rest of this post. The “Wrecking Ball” music video shows Miley making out with a sledgehammer (uhhh what?), showing off her toned body (seriously- you can’t hate on her for that!) and rocking some flawless makeup while crying her eyes out. The video has inspired me- so here’s how to steal Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” look with a few beauty products.
One of the stand-out features of Miley’s makeup in this video is her perfect skin. It’s- gasp – on the paler side, free of any blemishes and not too matte or shiny. To achieve this look, first apply a color-correcting primer, like the Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correcting Foundation Primer, to even out your skin tone. Then lightly apply a foundation (like L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Makeup) with a brush to buff the product in evenly. To set the foundation and get rid of any shine, apply a translucent powder all over the face, like Bare Minerals Illuminating Mineral Veil. Skip and bronzer and blush- Miley isn’t wearing any!
Another stand-out feature of this look is Miley’s strong eyebrows. Start off by making your natural brows appear fuller and straighter with a brow product a shade or two darker than your natural color (you want them to appear darker in contrast to your lighter hair, just like Miley). I suggest Benefit’s Gimme Brow– everyone’s new favorite product. Using a liquid eyeliner (like the e.l.f. Essentials Liquid Liner) draw a very thin line as close to your upper lashline as possible. Curl lashes and apply multiple coats of a lengthening mascara (like the Maybelline Volum’ Express Falsies Big Eyes Mascara), making sure to define each and every lash- even the bottom ones.
Lately Miley’s been wearing a red lip everywhere she goes, and this video is no exception. Find a red with hints of blue in it- it works better on lighter skin tones. Outline lips with a lip pencil (like NARS lipliner in “Jungle Red”) and then fill them in with a matching lipstick (NARS lipstick in “Jungle Red”).
Top nails off with a few coats of a bright white nail polish, like Essie nail polish in “Blanc”.
Now go around braless in a wife beater and brown combat boots and you’re all set!
her makeup is really awesome in the video and I remember thinking that while watching the video for the first time.
I may not be the hugest fan of Miley’s personal choices, but I certainly can’t argue that she’s not talented AND beautiful! Love the makeup she’s rocking in this video, especially that bold lip!
The red lip is gorgeous on her but Miley is such a train wreck!
The video is definitely weird but not as weird as the one with the teddy bears. And I did love her makeup!
Love her makeup so I love that you did this little breakdown!! Great post. LOVE the bold lipstick.
Love the makeup break down and the last two lines of the post!
I love the bold red lips the most!
her makeup is simply perfect… she should tone it down more often!
and put her tongue away
Definitely a strange video- ha! But she did look gorgeous; great post for replicating her look!
Oh, Miley. Haha. I love her makeup in the video, that was such a great idea to recreate it. That lipstick is gorgeous!
I surprisingly enjoyed this song as well, and would have liked the music video minus the sledgehammer make-out sesh and complete nudity. She over sexualizes everything and it takes away from her talent.
I KNOW! She needs a better PR person
I like the makeup post, but I would have preferred a “Get the outfit” post. hahaah! Her makeup did look great. And as much as I tried to fight it, I really like this song. xoxo
You can get the wife beater at Walmart and the underwear in the little boy’s section 🙂
I weirdly like this song too, it’s been stuck in my head on and off for the past couple days. Her makeup is definitely flawless.
First of all, I have mixed feelings about Miley, but girl does look phenomenal in this video. I may or may not be jamming to Wrecking Ball as I type. No comment. Secondly, I’m always on the lookout for blue-tinted lipsticks. I love NARS lip colors, but they just don’t look right on me. Good to know about Jungle Red! I think I will have to scoop it up on my next trip to Sephora.
I like MAC too (not all NARS work on me, either) and then Revlon for a drugstore brand
if only this poor girl would put her damn tongue in her mouth… like come on. but no one can deny that she looks amazing. she’s stunning and i’d kill for her skin and 10 thousand mile long legs… but yeah… the tongue… I don’t get it. love the makeup selection you’ve arranged!!
yes, the tongue needs to go away!
Major kuddos for pointing this out! When I first saw that video I thought, “She looks stunning”. Like her or not, she’s a very naturally pretty girl. And, that red lipstick — loving it.
OH MAN. Miley Cyrus, what happened to you girlfriend? Keep that tounge in your mouth and your boobs in a shirt.
But in all seriousness, her makeup was phenom. Great picks!
I do love her makeup in the video.. I’m just loving red lipstick these days!!
Oh Miley… I mean, what do you say (other than train wreck)? I feel like we are one step away from a crazy head shaving (very Britney circa 5 years ago). I do agree about her music though. I don’t mind it. And her make up does look good in the video… perhaps who every is doing her make up should talk to whoever is helping her dress… oh and doing her hair 🙂
haha very true!
I’m not a big Miley fan, but I do love that lipstick!!
I too wasn’t a fan of her VMA performance (can you say hot mess?!) I love her new song though! And I actually like the video too…minus the making out with a sledge hammer part.
