What is Clarifying Shampoo?
You may be wondering to yourself, “What is clarifying shampoo and why should I be using it”? Think about it this way- you put tons of product into your hair everyday. In addition, your hair picks up dirt and smells throughout the day as well. Regular shampoo helps to get rid of some of that (and to nourish your scalp, of course), but not all of it. Clarifying shampoo helps to eliminate the buildup of product and truly clean your hair. It’s not made to necessarily replace your daily shampoo, but as a supplement to use every so often.

How do I know if I need to use clarifying shampoo?
If you use products like hairspray and gels daily, you should probably use a clarifying shampoo every so often to give your hair a real deep clean. If your hair seems to be greasy, dull, limp or heavy, a clarifying shampoo definitely can help. I notice after using it, my hair looks instantly shinier.
How often should I use a clarifying shampoo?
I try to use it once a week, usually right after my hair had a “rough day” (aka when I put a ton of product in it or heat styled it). If you rarely put heavy products into your hair, you can use it less- maybe once every 2 weeks or so. If you’re a swimmer, clarifying shampoo should be your BFF to combat the negative effects of chlorine.
What if none of my hair products seem to be working?
Well my friend, it may be because all those products have caused a build up and the new products can’t penetrate the actual hair strands. This is where clarifying shampoo can help!
Have you ever used a clarifying shampoo before?
Yes, this is just the explanation I needed. I almost made some research. I am using the Suave Clarifying Shampoo. Inexpensive but I find that it works. I have that oily and limp hair. I immediately see results after one wash. It removes grease really well. I’ll definitely makes this post as a reference. Thanks!
Thanks for your comment!
I’ve always wondered if clarifying shampoo was an everyday thing. Great info!
thanks!
I’ve used it but I don’t buy it regularly. I really should since I leave conditioner in my hair and use gel almost daily. Thanks for the reminder!
I’ve never tried Clarifying shampoo, that apple cider one looks intriguing.
i love moroccanoil’s clarifying shampoo!
I used to use clarifying shampoo regularly, but then for some reason stopped. Thanks for the reminder! I know I have a bottle laying around somewhere!
i used to use neutrogena’s clarifying shampoo once a week but fell out of the habit. i think the fekkai one here looks awesome!
Yikes! I guess I never really thought about clarifying shampoo that much, but with all the crap I put in my hair, I definitely need it! Great round up 🙂
I’ve never used clarifying shampoo before but I have to try it out!
Clarifying shampoo is so necessary for me! I use it every 2 weeks with a deep conditioner to follow and I notice that it really makes a difference!
I needed a reminder on this! Clarifying shampoo is one of those things that I always forget.
I’ve used clarifying shampoo before but didn’t notice a difference afterwards, maybe because I don’t use much product.
I had never used it before until last week. I went to the salon to get a deep conditioning treatment and they used a clarifying shampoo to wash my hair so that the treatment would work better.
I’ve had Pantene’s clarifying shampoo in my shower for years- a wash with it once a week and my hair is a happy camper. 🙂
My sister is a college swimmer and uses clarifying shampoo multiple times per week! I used to use it when I swam back in the day, but haven’t used it in several years…so I need to fix that!
yes- swimmers use it a lot!
I use my clarifying shampoo every 10-14 days. I love the garnier one. Great and informative post!!
