How to Throw the Ultimate Oscar Party

Ever since I can remember, I’ve enjoyed watching award shows of all types. Although I usually haven’t seen most of the movies nominated, I still love to predict who will win, pick my choices for “best dressed” at the red carpet and secretly hope someone falls or swears on live television. I can’t be alone, right?

I’ve also always wanted to throw my own award-show party with a few friends. The type of get-together where everyone dresses up, fills out a ballot of the nominees and snacks on homemade appetizers. With the Oscars coming up, I’ve been thinking about just what type of party I would throw. Who knows, maybe next year I’ll actually go through with it!

For an outfit, guests would wear their favorite red-carpet look. This dress and lipstick combo gives off an old Hollywood vibe. Maybe it’s just me, but sometimes it’s fun to get dressed up for a night in, and an award show party is the perfect opportunity. Finish the outfit off with these  BCBG Paris Jaze Metallic d’Orsay Pumps and Bauble Bar Crystal Quad Drop Earrings.

I usually only save paper invitations for really special occasions, but there are just too many cute options out there not to purchase some. Other must-haves for the party- a good cocktail shaker, book of drink ideas and glasses, of course. These fun popcorn boxes are great for guests to fill with their favorite snacks as they watch the awards. Finally, opt for simple decorations in a Hollywood color scheme- golds, blacks, grays and reds. I love these tissue blooms.

No party is complete without food and drinks. Since the Oscars start a little later, you can focus on light appetizers and desserts- my favorite! Offer a variety of types of alcohol or create a signature drink of the night, like the cocktail above. For apps, stick to just a few light offerings like tomato basil bruschetta. For dessert, why not try chocolate-covered raspberries? Sure, strawberries are good and all, but some of us are coming off the high of Valentine’s Day and might be sick of them.

If you’re anything like me, you’d probably invite a few male friends or boyfriends over, too. While some might love the champagne cocktails above, chances are they’ll want something else to drink. Which is where Baileys comes into play. Here’s a fun recipe straight from Baileys themselves:

The Royal Brunch Drink

Whether it’s the touch of maple in the whisky or the Vanilla Cinnamon Baileys Irish Cream, this decadent shot has us feeling a little bit like royalty ourselves.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. Baileys® Vanilla Cinnamon
  • 0.5 oz. Crown Royal® Maple Finished Whisky
  • 3 blueberries on cocktail pick

Directions

  • Mix ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a shot glass.
  • Add blueberry garnish.
