J Crew Outfits for Every Holiday Party

One thing I really miss about my old job in NYC is the amazing holiday parties we had every year. Everyone got dressed up, went to a nearby bar or restaurant and had lots of drinks and food. These days, the holiday parties I attend are more so kid-based or family-based, which require a whole different dress code.

I was browsing J Crew’s website the other day and looking at all their new arrivals, many of which would be perfect for an upcoming holiday event. Here are some ideas for outfits for every holiday party, ranging from casual to formal (and all are from J Crew).

What to Wear to a Holiday Gala

For a fancy party, gala, or charity event that happens around the holidays, the dress code likely calls for black-tie, black-tie optional, or formal. You can’t go wrong here with a floor-length dress in a holiday color (this red sequin version below is on the more “fun” side). For accessories, I’d pair it with a classic black clutch and heels (when wearing a floor-length gown, I try to opt for comfort in my shoes since they aren’t really visible to everyone — does anyone else do this?) To top it off, put on a pair of long, dangly earrings.

What to Wear to a Holiday Concert

Around the holidays, there are a lot of random events that don’t fall into the typical categories of parties — think events like a holiday concert or a new store opening. With these events, you can dress a little more funky, like this sweater and glitter skirt combo.

What to Wear to a Work Holiday Party

For a more low-key work holiday party (which typically adheres to the standard office dress code), you can’t go wrong with a ruffled blouse, classic trousers, fancy black heels, and a pair of statement earrings. If you can’t dress too far from the office dress code, accessories are where you can get a little fancy.

What to Wear to a Christmas Cookie Party

I’ve never been to one of these parties, but I’d like to! For a get-together with your girlfriends where you all bake cookies and swap them, opt for a warm sweater, these velvet lounge pants (comfy but stylish!), velvet mulet flats, and a headband (to keep your hair out of the cookie dough, duh 🙂 ).

What to Wear to a Holiday Wedding

I’ve never personally been to a wedding around the holidays, but I know NYE weddings are super common. You can’t go wrong with a sleek black velvet dress, leather pumps, and drop earrings.

What to Wear to a Holiday Dinner

For your family’s Christmas (or Christmas eve) dinner, you can’t go wrong with a classic cable-knit sweater, festive plaid pants, comfy flats, and pearl earrings. These pants have a bit of stretch to them, making them comfortable to wear even after the meal.
