One new-to-me brand that I’ve recently seen while browsing Nordstrom is Banjanan. Side note: does anyone else sing the brand name to the tune of “Black Betty“, or is that just me? “Black Betty, Banjanan”.
Banjanan is a sustainable textile brand by Caroline Weller, producing products ranging from women’s dresses to table linens since 2013. Their pieces are hand-printed and hand embroidered on organic cotton in India, sources and manufactures locally, and adheres to a no-waste philosophy. In an interview with Vogue, Weller describes the concept of the brand as “the merging of modern silhouettes with traditional Indian fabrics and techniques, like exquisite hand embroideries, and hand-carved block printing”.
What sticks out to me about the brand is the gorgeous floral prints, making their pieces perfect for spring and summer (whether it’s an Easter dress or a beachy, vacation dress). The pieces are a bit pricey for some budgets (ranging in the $200 – $400 range), but when you see the attention to detail and learn about the sustainable practices in which the pieces are made, it makes sense.

How to Style Banjanan Dresses
The dresses are bright and colorful on their own, so you only need a tiny bit of accessorizing and styling. Here are 4 ways to style a Banjanan dress from some ladies on Instagram.
- Pair with sunnies and colorful heels. These yellow wedge heels add just the right amount of fun to the already-fun pattern on this pink dress. And of course a pair of black sunglasses go with just about any dress.
- Add a straw accessory. Straw accessories — whether it’s a straw hat or bag — are the perfect summer accessory.
- Rock a pair of sneakers. A clean white pair of sneakers or slip-ons paired with a dress adds a casual vibe that’s perfect for sightseeing or summer travel.
- Color-coordinate your bag with your dress. The pop of red from this bag brings out the pattern of the dress even more.
